WiFi Scan - Privacy policy
This privacy policy explains how WiFi Scan, an Android application created by bitlopex, handles information when you use the app.
1. Overview
WiFi Scan is a Wi-Fi network scanner and monitor for Android devices. The app is designed to help users analyze nearby Wi-Fi networks, signal strength, channels, frequency bands, security type and approximate access point manufacturer.
WiFi Scan does not require a user account and does not include login functionality.
2. Information accessed and processed by the app
WiFi Scan accesses and displays technical information about nearby Wi-Fi access points provided by the Android system, including:
- Wi-Fi network name (SSID)
- BSSID / MAC address of the access point
- Signal strength in dBm
- Wi-Fi channel
- Frequency
- Wi-Fi band
- Security type
- Hidden network status, when available
- Approximate manufacturer based on the BSSID/OUI
This information is used to display scan results, channel occupation, signal quality, filters and monitoring information inside the app.
3. Local processing
WiFi Scan processes Wi-Fi scan results locally on your device.
Wi-Fi scan results are not sent to servers owned or operated by the developer.
The app does not upload your scanned Wi-Fi networks, SSIDs, BSSIDs, signal levels, channels or security information to a developer-operated backend.
4. App preferences
WiFi Scan may store app preferences locally on your device, such as:
- Refresh interval
- Selected filters
- Selected Wi-Fi band
- Monitor status
- Keep screen on setting
These preferences are stored locally to keep the app configuration between sessions.
5. Permissions used by the app
WiFi Scan may request or declare the following Android permissions:
ACCESS_WIFI_STATE
Used to read Wi-Fi state and access Wi-Fi scan results provided by the Android system.
CHANGE_WIFI_STATE
Used to request Wi-Fi scans through the Android system.
ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION and ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION
Android may require location permissions to allow apps to access nearby Wi-Fi scan results, because nearby Wi-Fi networks can reveal information about the surrounding environment.
WiFi Scan uses these permissions only to access Wi-Fi scan results. The app does not use GPS to show your physical location on a map and does not track your movements.
NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES
Used on Android 13 and higher to access information about nearby Wi-Fi networks and devices. WiFi Scan does not use Wi-Fi information to derive your physical location.
com.android.vending.CHECK_LICENSE
Used to allow Google Play to verify the licensing status of the app. This verification is handled through Google Play services.
com.wifiscan.app.DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION
This is a technical internal permission used to protect app broadcast receivers. It is not used to collect personal data.
6. Location information
WiFi Scan does not display your physical location, does not use GPS navigation and does not track your movement.
However, Android may classify access to nearby Wi-Fi networks as location-sensitive. For this reason, Android may require location-related permissions or location services to be enabled before Wi-Fi scan results can be accessed.
7. Data sharing
WiFi Scan does not sell personal data.
WiFi Scan does not share Wi-Fi scan results with developer-operated servers.
If you install the app through Google Play, Google Play may process technical information related to app installation, licensing, device compatibility, crash reporting or platform services according to Google’s own privacy practices.
8. Analytics and advertising
WiFi Scan does not use Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, AdMob or advertising SDKs in the current version.
The app does not show ads in the current version.
If analytics or advertising services are added in a future version, this privacy policy will be updated.
9. Data retention and deletion
Wi-Fi scan results are displayed in the app and are not permanently stored by the developer.
Local app preferences remain on your device until you clear the app data or uninstall the app.
You can delete locally stored app data at any time by using Android system settings for the app or by uninstalling WiFi Scan.
10. Children’s privacy
WiFi Scan is a technical utility for analyzing Wi-Fi networks. The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Security
WiFi Scan is designed to process its main data locally on the device. Since Wi-Fi scan results are not sent to developer-operated servers, the developer does not store those results remotely.
12. Changes to this policy
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
